Two people have died while 26 others suffered injuries after a bus carrying mourners crashed along the Muhoroni-Londiani road.
The accident happened early Thursday morning at the tunnel area, about seven kilometres from Fort Ternan. Police officers at Fort Ternan are investigating the incident.
According to police, the bus lost control at around 4:50 a.m. It then left the road and rolled once.
Bus Was Carrying Mourners
The Mercedes bus, registration number KDH 181Y, belonged to Kupa Kenya Hearse Services.
At the time of the crash, the bus was heading to Muhoroni. It was carrying mourners who were escorting the body of the late Jayden Kamau.
Police identified the driver as 33-year-old Emmanuel Osembo. Officers said he lost control of the vehicle before it veered off the road.
Two Passengers Die in Crash
Sadly, two passengers died during the accident. They were identified as Mathew Obiero, aged 36, and Margaret Areyo, aged 21.
Meanwhile, 26 other passengers sustained different injuries. The victims suffered cuts, bruises, body pains, chest injuries and spinal injuries.
In addition, police reported that some passengers suffered serious injuries. At least two victims were unconscious when officers recorded the initial report.
Several children were also among those injured in the crash.
Police Begin Investigations
After the accident, authorities moved the bodies of the deceased to St Vincent Morgue. The bodies will undergo identification and postmortem examinations.
Police officers also visited the scene. They later towed the bus to the station for inspection.
Furthermore, officers confirmed that no other vehicle was involved in the crash.
Investigations are ongoing as police work to establish the cause of the accident.
