President William Ruto will address the nation on Thursday evening, State House has announced.
The President will deliver the speech at State House, Nairobi, at 7:00 p.m. However, officials have not shared the main topic of the address.
Focus on Kenya’s Future Plans
The address is expected to highlight the Government’s development plans and future goals.
It comes days after President Ruto received a report titled Developing a New National Vision: Journey to a First World Economy.
The report will guide plans for a new national development strategy after Vision 2030. The Vision 2030 plan has guided Kenya’s economic growth since 2008.
While receiving the report, Ruto said it raised important issues about Kenya’s future.
He mentioned plans to create a National Infrastructure Fund and a Sovereign Wealth Fund.
“These institutions form part of a broader strategy that is already guiding Kenya’s long-term transformation into a competitive first-world country,” Ruto said.
The President said the Government will study the proposals. He also asked Kenyans to share their views on the report.
Address Comes Ahead of 2027 Elections
The speech comes as political activities increase ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Political leaders have started forming new alliances as they prepare for the next election.
Meanwhile, insecurity remains a major concern across the country. Many Kenyans expect the President to address the issue during his speech.
Questions Over Ruto and Kindiki’s Relationship
The address also comes amid growing attention on President Ruto’s relationship with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
Recent reports claimed that the Deputy President’s office lost some intergovernmental duties. The reports suggested that Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi received the responsibilities.
However, Kindiki dismissed the claims as false. He later shared photos of a private meeting with President Ruto at State House.
The meeting appeared aimed at showing unity between the two leaders.
The debate grew after the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party lost the Ol Kalou by-election. Some Ruto allies have since questioned whether Kindiki will remain his running mate in the 2027 elections.
