Three church leaders accused of taking part in an alleged exorcism ritual that left four children severely burnt have been released on bond.
The incident reportedly happened at St. Abraham Israel Assemblies of God Church in Bondo Sub-County, Siaya County. According to the case details, the children suffered severe burns after someone allegedly poured hot water on them during the ritual.
The suspects, identified as Gaudensia Juma, Steven Omondi and Clinton Obudho, appeared before Bondo Resident Magistrate Christabel Maiyo to answer charges linked to the incident.
Court Grants Three Pastors Bond
During the court appearance, the three suspects denied the charges against them.
Magistrate Maiyo granted Juma a bond of KSh100,000 or cash bail of KSh50,000. Meanwhile, Omondi and Obudho each received a bond of KSh300,000.
The prosecution had asked the court to detain the suspects as investigations continued. However, the magistrate considered their personal circumstances when making the bail decision.
The court heard that Juma was elderly and unwell. Additionally, Obudho’s wife had recently given birth.
Court Warns Suspects Against Contacting Victims
As part of the bail conditions, the magistrate ordered all three suspects to provide their contact details to the investigating officer.
The court also directed them to attend every mention and hearing. Furthermore, they must remain available to the investigating officer whenever required.
Magistrate Maiyo warned the suspects against interfering with the victims or witnesses in any way.
Case to Return to Court on October 26
The court scheduled the next mention for October 26, 2026.
During the mention, the court is expected to receive an update on the progress of the case.
The allegations against the three church leaders remain unproven, and the case will proceed through the court process.
