The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a teacher at Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School in Bungoma County over alleged bribery.
The teacher, Lilian Nelima Buluma, allegedly demanded money from three unemployed teachers. In return, she reportedly promised to help them secure jobs through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
According to the EACC, officers arrested Buluma on Monday, October 12, 2026, after investigating complaints from the three job seekers.
Teacher Allegedly Demanded KSh100,000 From Each Applicant
The EACC claims that Buluma demanded KSh100,000 from each applicant in exchange for assistance with TSC recruitment.
As a result, the three demands amounted to KSh300,000.
Investigators also say Buluma claimed to have connections within the TSC and other government offices. She allegedly told the applicants that she could use these connections to influence the recruitment process.
However, preliminary investigations indicate that Buluma had already received KSh150,000 through M-Pesa from the complainants.
EACC Arrests Teacher in Bungoma
Following the arrest, EACC officers processed Buluma at the commission’s Western Regional Office.
The officers then took her to Bungoma Police Station as investigations continued. Meanwhile, the commission will determine the next steps based on the evidence gathered.
Teacher Could Face Bribery Charges
Buluma could face charges of requesting and receiving bribes, depending on the investigation findings.
The case highlights the risks job seekers face when dealing with people who promise government jobs in exchange for money. Therefore, applicants should verify recruitment information through official channels before making any payments.
Nevertheless, the allegations against Buluma remain unproven in court.
