A Kisumu court has freed eight suspects linked to a violent clash at an ACK church on July 12, 2026.
The incident happened during a church service attended by the Linda Mwananchi team. Two groups reportedly confronted each other, causing chaos at the venue.
The suspects spent 10 days in custody. However, Kisumu Magistrate Vee Agutu released them on Monday after the prosecution failed to file charges.
The magistrate also stopped the prosecution from bringing fresh charges against the eight suspects in the case. She ordered the closure of the file.
Lawyers Claim Delayed Justice
A legal team led by Senior Counsel James Orengo represented the suspects. Other lawyers included Faith Odhiambo and Babu Owino.
Orengo accused the prosecution of delaying the case by seeking more time to pursue charges they could not prove.
He insisted that the eight suspects were innocent. He also claimed that the state was using police and court processes to settle political disputes.
However, Orengo praised the court for releasing the suspects. He said the decision allowed them to leave custody freely and without conditions.
