Abduction claims involving Nairobi lawyer Abshir Ahmedsadak Abdi have reached the High Court, where his family is seeking urgent orders compelling security agencies to disclose his whereabouts.
The family filed a habeas corpus application at the Milimani High Court after Abdi disappeared following an alleged incident along Muchai Road, off Ngong Road, in Nairobi.

Abduction allegedly happened near Ngong Road
According to court documents, Abdi was last seen at about 4am on Sunday when armed men allegedly intercepted him and forced him into a black Toyota Land Cruiser.
His white Toyota Premio was later found abandoned along Muchai Road and was taken to Kilimani Police Station.
Witnesses reportedly told investigators that Abdi’s car had been pursued by two vehicles before it veered into a ditch.
The family says armed individuals then removed him from the vehicle and drove away with him. These claims form part of the court application and have not been independently verified.
Family seeks production in court
Abdi’s brother, Zakaria Abshir, wants the High Court to order the police and other security agencies to produce the lawyer before court within 24 hours.
The family also wants authorities to disclose any warrant, detention order or other legal document that may have authorized his arrest or continued detention.
Abdi’s phones have reportedly remained switched off since his disappearance, and a missing person report was filed at Kilimani Police Station.
Family links disappearance to ongoing court case
The application also raises concerns about a possible connection between Abdi’s disappearance and a criminal case before the Makadara Law Courts in which he is listed as a witness.
His family alleges that he had previously received threats from individuals they claim were linked to several security agencies and that he had been pressured to withdraw from the case.
Those allegations remain claims made by the family in court documents and have not been established by a court.
Abdi was previously arrested
Court documents indicate that Abdi had previously been arrested in October 2025 by officers his family alleges were drawn from intelligence and security agencies.
He was later released after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions declined to approve an application for custodial orders.
The family says complaints over alleged threats and the earlier arrest were subsequently lodged with senior officials and oversight bodies.
Court asked to preserve evidence
Beyond seeking Abdi’s production in court, the family wants several forms of evidence preserved.
These include CCTV footage, vehicle tracking information, mobile network data, automatic number plate recognition records and other information that could help establish what happened along Muchai Road.
The application also seeks independent investigations by oversight bodies, including the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, with findings to be presented to court.
Police have said investigations into Abdi’s disappearance are ongoing.
