Police in Njoro Sub-County, Nakuru County, have intensified a crackdown on illicit alcohol and illegal gambling. The operation led to the arrest of one suspect and the destruction of brewing equipment.
A multi-agency team comprising officers from the Kenya Police Service and the Administration Police Service raided eight homes in Segutiet-Ndarugu Village, Sigotik Sub-Location, in Nessuit Location.
During the raid, officers arrested 39-year-old Vivian Chelagat. Police said they found her with 20 litres of kangara, an illicit alcoholic brew.
In addition, officers poured out several litres of chang’aa and kangara. Police said other suspects fled the area when they saw the security team.
The officers also destroyed drums, plastic containers and other equipment allegedly used to brew the illegal alcohol.
Illegal Lotto Machines Recovered
Meanwhile, the team extended the operation to Tagitech Trading Centre. There, officers seized several illegal lotto machines.
Police moved the machines to the Njoro Sub-County headquarters. Authorities will destroy them after completing the required procedures.
Investigations Ongoing
Police secured the recovered exhibits at Nessuit Police Station. Investigators will send the samples to the Government Chemist for analysis.
Meanwhile, Chelagat remains in police custody as detectives prepare to arraign her in court.
The operation forms part of a two-week Rapid Results Initiative. The initiative aims to curb illicit alcohol, illegal gambling and other criminal activities across the area.
