James Mworia Appointed Founding CEO of National Infrastructure Fund

The National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) has appointed Dr. James Mworia Mwirigi as its first Chief Executive Officer.

Mworia will officially take up the position on September 7, 2026.

The NIF Board of Directors said Mworia will lead the process of building the fund into a credible national investment institution.

He will also oversee the development of infrastructure enterprises needed to deliver the fund’s mandate.

As the founding CEO, Mworia will be responsible for setting up the organisation and building its team, systems and workplace culture.

He will also put in place the fund’s governance, investment and risk management frameworks.

In addition, Mworia will develop a strong pipeline of infrastructure projects that can attract investment. He will work to mobilise co-investment capital and move priority projects from appraisal to implementation.

Mworia’s Experience at Centum

Mworia brings extensive experience in investment management to the new role.

He previously served as Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Centum Investment Company PLC.

He held the position for 17 years before leaving the investment firm.

Earlier in 2026, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi appointed Mworia to the NIF Board.

He began his three-year term as a board member on July 8, 2026.

NIF Board to Drive Infrastructure Investment

The NIF Board operates under the leadership of President William Ruto.

The board will play a key role in connecting government financial resources with Kenya’s development priorities.

Mworia’s appointment comes as the government seeks to strengthen investment in major infrastructure projects.

His experience in investment management is expected to help NIF attract capital and develop projects that can support Kenya’s long-term economic growth.
