Kibera Soccer coach Iddi Shikanda has set his sights on a top-five finish in the National Super League (NSL) during the 2026/27 season.
The club will compete in the second-tier league for the first time after securing promotion last season.
Kibera Soccer earned promotion after five attempts to reach the NSL.
Team chemistry key to promotion
Shikanda believes team chemistry played a major role in the club’s successful promotion campaign.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, the coach said most of his players have played together for several years.
“What made it easy for me is that these players have played together for so many years.”
Shikanda said his main task was to build a winning mentality within the squad.
He also challenged his players to treat every match like a final.
“What I did was to introduce the winning mentality, treating each game as a final, ensuring that we win all our home games,” the tactician said.
Kibera Soccer dreams of NSL title
After achieving promotion, Shikanda has now set a bigger target for the team.
He wants Kibera Soccer to finish among the top five teams in their first NSL season.
However, the coach also believes the club can go all the way and win the league title.
“The dream of every coach is to win the league they participate in,” Shikanda said.
He pointed to Sofapaka as an example of a team that quickly rose through the ranks.
“In 2009, Sofapaka came from the NSL and went straight to winning the Kenyan Premier League.”
Shikanda added that Kibera Soccer will aim for a top-five finish while keeping their eyes on the league title.
“Our target is to finish among the top five teams, if not winning the NSL this season,” he said.
Club keeps faith in promotion squad
Despite their ambitious targets, Kibera Soccer have taken a cautious approach in the transfer market.
The club has signed only a few new players ahead of the new season.
Instead, Shikanda has chosen to rely largely on the squad that secured promotion.
The coach believes keeping the core of the team will help maintain their understanding and chemistry.
That continuity could prove important as Kibera Soccer adjust to the demands of the NSL.
The club will therefore begin its maiden NSL campaign with the same group that earned promotion.
Kibera Soccer now hopes that squad can help establish the club among the leading teams in Kenya’s second tier.
