Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has called for political realignment in the Mount Kenya region.
Ruku said the region has been politically divided for many years.
He spoke during a Sunday church service at Christian Church International (CCI) in Gatundu North, Kiambu County.
Ruku said political divisions in Mount Kenya have existed under different administrations. He cited the era of former President Mwai Kibaki as an example.
The CS said he was only reminding residents about the region’s political history.
He also denied having any differences with people from Mount Kenya West.
However, Ruku criticised leaders who have accused him of dividing the region. He specifically mentioned leaders allied to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
Ruku said political alliances change with time and circumstances.
He urged residents to embrace the emerging political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Ruku was accompanied by Gatundu North MP Njoroge Kururia. Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a and Taveta MP John Bwire were also present.
Kiambu Region Proposal
Gatundu South MP Elijah Njoroge supported Ruku’s position.
Njoroge said dividing the larger Mount Kenya region could benefit Kiambu County.
He suggested that Kiambu could become a separate region.
According to Njoroge, this would give Kiambu a bigger share of national resources. It could also increase the county’s political representation.
Other leaders at the church service also backed President William Ruto’s administration.
They supported the ongoing political realignment in Mount Kenya.
The latest developments come as political divisions continue to grow in the region.
The divisions have largely emerged between Ruto’s supporters and his critics.
The political battle is expected to intensify as the country approaches the 2027 General Election.
