Police are investigating the death of Police Constable Dennis Kibet Cheruiyot at the Presidential Escort Unit (PEU) residential quarters in Juja, Kiambu County.
The 30-year-old officer died early on Wednesday. Meanwhile, detectives are working to establish what happened.
Senior Officers Inspect the Scene
According to a police report, senior officers visited the residence after receiving information about the incident.
The team included the PEU Deputy Commandant, the Juja Sub-County Police Commander and crime scene investigators from Juja.
During the visit, officers recovered the officer’s service firearm from the house.
Detectives Recover Three-Page Note
Preliminary findings indicate that one shot was fired during the incident.
In addition, detectives recovered a three-page note from a table inside the residence.
According to investigators, the note described the officer’s personal struggles and final wishes.
However, detectives have not released the contents of the note.
DCI Continues Investigations
Afterwards, forensic experts documented the scene before detectives continued with the investigation.
Later, authorities took the body to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) mortuary.
Pathologists will carry out a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Juja is continuing with investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
