12 suspects arrested after VIP convoy incident in Siaya

Police in Siaya have arrested 12 suspects over an incident involving a convoy of dignitaries in Siaya town.

The incident happened on September 8, 2026, after the officials attended a women’s economic empowerment event at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) grounds.

First Lady Rachel Ruto hosted the event. Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi and other government officials also attended.

Youths allegedly block convoy

According to police, a group of rowdy youths allegedly tried to block the convoy as it left the event.

The youths reportedly threw stones at police officers who guarded the entrance to a secured gate.

Meanwhile, chaos broke out as the convoy moved towards a designated landing and take-off site.

The youths allegedly tried to force their way through the security barrier.

Police move in to restore order

As the situation escalated, security officers moved in to restore order.

Police then arrested 12 people who they believe took part in the confrontation.

Meanwhile, officers have continued investigating the incident.

They are also working to identify other people who may have joined the disturbance.

Suspects remain in police custody

Police continue to hold the 12 suspects as officers complete the necessary processing.

After completing the process, police expect to take the suspects to court.

However, investigators may make further arrests if they identify other people linked to the incident.
