The video was recorded on the night of October 28 at Shell Westview Service Station.

Footage circulating online shows a man holding a fuel nozzle and directing petrol onto a vehicle while another person stands nearby.

The incident triggered concern because of the danger fuel spillage can pose to motorists, attendants and other people at a service station.

Vivo Energy, which markets and distributes Shell-branded fuels and lubricants in Kenya, said it strongly disapproved of the conduct.

The company described the actions as reckless and said safety remains a top priority at its service stations.

Authorities investigating incident

Vivo Energy said it is reviewing what happened at the station.

According to the company, the retailer operating the outlet reported the matter to the relevant authorities for investigation and possible further action.

The distributor also said it is reinforcing safety procedures across its network following the incident.

It thanked members of the public who raised concerns after the footage emerged.

As of the company’s statement, there was no confirmation on whether the people seen in the video had been identified or whether any arrests had been made.

Petrol handling poses serious fire risk

Petrol is highly flammable, meaning careless handling can create a major fire hazard.

Spilled fuel can become particularly dangerous when exposed to flames, sparks or other ignition sources.

The incident has renewed attention on the importance of strict safety procedures at fuel stations.
